D'abord pur utilitaire dans un monde d'après-guerre man-
quant de moyens de transport, le Combi a aussi été fabri-
qué en version minibus. Les modèles les plus rares sont
intensément recherchés et sont présents dans les collec-
tions du monde entier.
1963 est une année charnière dans l’histoire du Combi en
général et dans celle du Combi deluxe en particulier. En
effet, après avoir quelques années auparavant abaissé le
seuil de chargement, Volkswagen décide d’élargir la lu-
nette arrière, avec pour conséquence directe la disparition
des deux fenêtres de coin si caractéristiques des modèles
deLuxe. Le système d’ouverture par poignée en T est rem-
placé par une serrure, une rainure ménagée dans la coque
permettant de saisir le hayon.
L’ouverture du capot arrière se fait quant à elle à l’aide
d’un bouton poussoir. Loin d’entraîner le mécontente-
ment de ses clients, la production s’envole littéralement.
Notre microbus "21 fenêtres" fait partie du modéle pro-
duit à 14 031 exemplaires en 1964.
Notre véhicule a été restauré à grands frais pour retrouver
sa jeunesse.

Initially a pure utility vehicle in a post-war world lacking
means of transportation, the Combi has also been manu-
factured in a minibus version. The rarer models are inten-
sely sought after and appear in the great collections of the
world. 1963 is a pivotal year in the history of the Combi
in general and in that of the deluxe Combi in particular.
Indeed, after a few years previously having lowered the
threshold of loading, Volkswagen decides to widen the rear
screen, with the direct consequence of the disappearance of
the two corner windows so characteristic of the deluxe mo-
dels. The system of opening by a T-handle is replaced by
a lock, a groove in the hull to enter the tailgate. The ope-
ning of the rear hood is done with a push button. Far from
causing discontent of its customers, production literally flies.
Our "21 Windows” microbus is part of the model pro-
duced in 14,031 examples in 1964.
Our vehicle has been restored at great expense to regain its
youth. Turquoise and white in color, the interior is in ex-
cellent condition.
