On April 17, 1964 marked a turning point in the history of
the automotive industry; that day, Ford, second largest world ma-
nufacturer, presents to the world fair in New York his Mustang.
Lee Iacocca, then Director general of Ford, had for a long time,
the vision of a small sports car that would invade the streets like
the Volkswagen beetle in Europe. Rather than make an ump-
teenth version of an existing car, Ford the concept of pony car.
Created initially as a coupe two-seater in the best European
tradition, Lee Iacocca realizes that the success depends in large
part of the volume of sales, thus, to save development costs, the
first versions will be directly based on the Ford Falcon family.
The Mustang is then endowed with a series 2.8 L six-cylinder
engine or optionally a V8 260 ci (4.2 L) or a 289 ci (4.7 L).
It is available in coupe hardtop or convertible (bodywork fast-
back appears in 1965)
