For many Porsche fans, the 993 series will remain the last "true" 911, combining the inimitable design of the 911 with
its famous flat air-cooled six-cylinder engine. Developed on the basis of the Cabriolet, the 993 Targa produced 4863 models
and said farewell to the ancient cradle and manually retractable roof and hello to an automatic retractable glass roof. The
glass roof would retract underneath the rear window revealing a large panoramic opening.
A shade was there to help prevent the greenhouse effect of the closed roof. This system was a complete redesign, as previous
Targa models had a removable roof section and a wide B-pillar functioning as a roll bar.
This last can also open to provide access to the rear of the passenger compartment. Proposed at the end of the year 1995,
the 993 Targa therefore only exists in version 285 HP.
Similarly it will only be available in the
version with two-wheel drive.
Our vehicle proposed for the sale totals a
little more than 93 000 kms. It is fitted
with its maintenance book and duplicate
keys. The book "Porsche 993 - Essential
Companion" refers to the 993 as the
"King of Porsche," and it is generally ack-
nowledged as "The purists' Holy Grail."
