The Espada, with 1,227 examples being built
between 1968 and 1978 made this the most suc-
cessful model of Lamborghini. Immediately and
unanimously because of its very well marked,
sporty character and by its line. "Espada" means
"Sword" in Spanish and Portuguese, referencing
the Sword used by the matador in the arena.
This two-door coupe with four seats was carried
out by the young Marcello Gandini, Designer at
Bertone.
The Espada is low and has a very tilted, convex
windscreen . The rear screen, quasi-horizontal,
under which there is a large luggage compartment,
further increases the futuristic line of this car. The
chassis, realised by Lamborghini, and the body-
work constitute a freestanding structure.
Powered by the same divine V12 of 4L of that
of the Miura but here with six double carburettors
horizontal body creating 325 HP, the Espada ap-
proaches 250 km/h in a surprising smooth man-
ner comfortably carrying 4 adults .
Our proposed model is a S1, ( chassis code begin-
ning by 7 ). It is part of a production of 186
examples from March 1968 to November 1969
and boasts the rare and original instrument panel
"to hexagons" so typical of its time.
