In 1977, the American army launched a call for tenders from specialized manu-
facturers for the design and production of an all-terrain vehicle capable of trans-
porting men and material in all areas of war. Lamborghini presents its prototype
Cheetah, renamed "LM001", but it is the Humvee of AM General who will be
retained. Lamborghini decides to launch the manufacture of a civil version in 1986
under the name of "LM002 " Its dimensions are impressive since it measures
4.90 meters long by 2 m wide and 1.85 m high. After tests ranging from V8
Chrysler to a V12 of 7.3L, passing by a six-cylinder diesel VM, the LM002
is finally fitted with the Lamborghini V12 L503 engine of the Lamborghini
Countach LP 5000 of 5,167 cm3 displacement of developing 450 cv. Despite a
poor aerodynamics and a weight of 2.7 tonnes empty, it reaches the speed record of
210 km/h, travels the 1,000 m start stop in 31 seconds, and goes from 0 to 100
km/h in 7.8 seconds. The braking system is composed of ventilated disc brakes at
the front and drums at the rear. Autonomy is ensured by the two fuel tanks that
hold a total of 290 liters.
The Lamborghini LM002 was produced in 301 examples between 1986 and
1933. Its field of predilection is naturally the desert. The princes of the Middle
East have acquired very many examples. The last 60 examples, called LM/Ame-
rican and presented at the Salon of Detroit in 1992, were intended for the Ame-
rican market; they have a more luxurious interior, chrome bumpers, special rims .
With very low original mileage, under 9000Km, our example presents in an ex-
cellent condition of conservation and operation.
